Editorial Standards

Editorial Standards

Standards readers can hold us to.

The principles, processes, and disclosures that govern every piece of journalism we publish at AltcoinReporter.

AltcoinReporter exists to deliver accurate, fair, and transparent cryptocurrency journalism. The standards on this page describe how we report stories, verify facts, label sponsored content, handle conflicts of interest, and use technology to support our work.

These standards apply to every author, contributor, and editor who publishes under the AltcoinReporter masthead. Where we get something wrong, we correct it in line with our Corrections Policy. Where readers want to challenge our reporting, our contact page tells you exactly how.

Good crypto journalism is not about being first. It is about being right, being clear, and being honest about what we do not yet know.

Our mission

AltcoinReporter provides timely, reliable, and accessible coverage of the cryptocurrency, blockchain, and digital-asset industries. Our readers range from curious newcomers to professional investors and builders, so our reporting aims to be technically accurate without being inaccessible.

We cover spot markets, regulation, security incidents, on-chain analysis, protocol launches, exchange operations, NFTs, DeFi, and the businesses building in the space. We aim to inform our audience well enough to make better decisions, without ever telling them what those decisions should be.

Editorial independence

Our editorial team operates independently from our commercial, advertising, and sponsorship activities. Advertisers, sponsors, affiliate partners, and the subjects of our coverage have no influence over what we report, how we report it, or whether we report it at all.

News articles and editorial analysis are never influenced by paid relationships. We do not accept payment, gifts, equity, tokens, or any other form of consideration in exchange for favourable coverage. Where any author has a personal financial interest in a project being covered, that interest is disclosed within the article.

Editorial decisions, including which stories to cover, how to frame them, who to interview, and what verdict to reach in reviews, sit with the editorial team alone.

Accuracy and fact-checking

Accuracy is the foundation of everything we publish. Before an article is published, our writers are expected to:

  • Verify factual claims against at least two independent sources where possible
  • Reference primary sources for prices, market caps, supply, and on-chain figures (CoinGecko, CoinMarketCap, official project disclosures, block explorers)
  • Quote directly from official announcements rather than paraphrase second-hand reporting
  • Clearly distinguish between confirmed facts and developing or unverified information
  • Reach out to companies and individuals named in critical reporting for comment

When breaking news arrives faster than verification allows, we say so explicitly. Readers should always be able to tell what we know, what we have been told, and what we are still confirming.

If a factual error is identified after publication, we follow our Corrections Policy to acknowledge and fix it transparently.

Use of artificial intelligence

AI Disclosure

AltcoinReporter uses artificial intelligence tools, including large language models, to support research, drafting, summarising, translation, and editing. AI is a tool that helps our editorial team work faster, not a replacement for human journalism.

Every article published on AltcoinReporter is reviewed, fact-checked, and approved by a named human editor before publication. Editorial responsibility for accuracy, fairness, and independence remains with the human editorial team and the named author of each piece. AI is not used to fabricate quotes, invent sources, or generate claims that have not been independently verified by a human.

Where an article is generated end-to-end by an AI system, it will be clearly labelled as such. To date, AltcoinReporter has not published any fully AI-generated content under an author byline.

We believe transparency about AI use is a core editorial responsibility in 2026 and beyond. As tools and practices evolve, this section will be updated to reflect how we are using them.

Sources and attribution

Our reporting is built on official announcements, verified company statements, regulatory filings, on-chain data, peer-reviewed research, primary interviews, and reporting from established industry sources. We credit other publications when we build on their work, and we link to original sources whenever we can.

We do not publish rumours, unverified screenshots, or anonymous claims as fact. Where we cite social media posts, we identify the account and where possible verify that it represents the person or entity it appears to.

Unnamed sources

We use unnamed sources only when the information they provide is significant, cannot be obtained on the record, and has been independently corroborated. The decision to grant anonymity rests with senior editors, not the reporting writer alone. We aim to tell readers as much as possible about why a source is unnamed and how we know they are credible.

Fact-checking process

Every article passes through a fact-checking layer before publication. For breaking news, this is real-time verification by the editor on duty. For longer features, reviews, and investigations, fact-checking includes cross-referencing all numerical claims, confirming attribution of all quotes, and verifying every external link resolves to its intended source.

Author transparency

Every article published on AltcoinReporter carries a clear human byline. Each named author has a public profile page on our website that lists their background, areas of expertise, and verifiable links to their public professional profiles where available.

Where an article has been edited, contributed to, or fact-checked by additional team members, this is acknowledged in the article footer. Where an author has a personal stake in the subject being covered, this is disclosed at the top of the article.

We do not publish under pseudonyms or anonymous bylines for editorial content. Press releases and sponsored content are clearly labelled and do not appear under editorial bylines.

Sponsored content and press releases

AltcoinReporter accepts sponsored articles and press releases from third-party clients. All paid content is clearly labelled, both visually on the article page and in the URL structure, so readers can easily distinguish it from our independent editorial content.

Sponsored content and press releases are written or supplied by the paying party, not by our editorial team. Their publication does not imply endorsement of the product, service, or project mentioned. Our editorial team retains the right to refuse any sponsored content that misrepresents itself, makes unverifiable claims, or violates our content standards.

For sponsorship and press release submissions, see our Advertise page.

Affiliate disclosure

Some articles, particularly exchange and product reviews, contain affiliate links. When a reader clicks one of these links and signs up for or purchases the linked service, AltcoinReporter may earn a commission at no additional cost to the reader.

Affiliate relationships do not influence editorial assessment. Reviews are written by editorial staff based on first-hand testing, public information, and user feedback. Where an affiliate relationship exists with a reviewed party, this is disclosed clearly at the top of the article. We will publish a negative or critical review of a service we have an affiliate relationship with if our editorial assessment leads to that conclusion.

Conflicts of interest

Authors and editors are required to disclose any holdings, business relationships, or personal connections that could create the appearance of a conflict of interest in their reporting. Disclosures are added to the relevant article in addition to being recorded internally.

Authors do not write reviews or analysis of projects in which they hold material positions. Holdings of major cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other top-cap assets) for the purposes of personal portfolio diversification are noted in author profile disclosures rather than on every article.

Editors who own positions in a project being covered recuse themselves from editorial decisions on that coverage.

Financial disclaimer

AltcoinReporter does not provide financial, investment, or legal advice. All content on this site, including news articles, market analysis, price predictions, and reviews, is published for informational and educational purposes only.

Cryptocurrency, token, and digital-asset investments carry significant risk, including the risk of total loss. Markets are volatile, regulation is evolving, and past performance is not indicative of future results. Readers should always conduct independent research, consider their personal circumstances, and consult with a qualified financial, tax, or legal advisor before making any investment or trading decision.

Right of reply

Subjects of critical coverage are given a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication where the timeline of reporting permits. Where we publish first and a subject responds afterwards, we update the article to include their statement.

If you are the subject of an article and believe our reporting contains a factual error, please follow our Corrections Policy. Disagreement with accurate reporting is not grounds for retraction or removal.

Updates to these standards

These standards are reviewed annually and updated whenever editorial policy or industry practice materially changes. Significant updates are noted in our newsletter and on our social channels.
